Počitelj

Franciscan monastery in Humac

The oldest monastery church in the whole of Herzeg – Bosnia is located in Humac, a suburb of Ljubuški and only ten kilometres away from Međugorje. In this Franciscan Monastery of St. Anthony of Padua in Humac is the oldest museum in BIH, established in 1884. In the renovated museum are exhibit collected over a broader area of Herzegovina from the Old Stone Age (Paleolithic) to the present day. Also exhibited is the Humac plate from 1185, the oldest preserved monument written in the old language – bosančica.

Blagaj - Dervish tekke

It is situated 12 km from Mostar and it is one of the largest and most beautiful streams of underground karst rivers in Europe. Below the great rock at the stream of the Buna, you can find Dervish Tekke House, built around the 16th century, whose construction was ordered by the Turkish sultan. Today Dervish Tekke House is an attractive cultural monument visited by many tourists from all parts of the world. Also, in this area, you can find a lot of traces of rich Illyrian, Roman, Byzantine and medieval history periods.

Monastery Žitomislić

Žitomislić Monastery is one of the most culturally Orthodox monasteries Herzegovina from the 16th century and is dedicated to the Annunciation of the Virgin. It is situated in a valley on the road from Mostar in southern Bosnia and Herzegovina’s border on the extreme western line of the old field Dubrava. In the old Hum field, it represents the westernmost held Orthodox monastery. The greatest founders of monasteries were from families Miloradović and Hrabren.

Vjetrenica Cave

In the southwestern, no man’s land of Herzegovina is the stunning valley of Popovo Polje. The ancient karst field is a minute piece of what is the one of the world’s largest karst field that stretches all the way into Croatia and Slovenia. Near the small town of Ravno and the medieval orthodox monastery of Zavala is the largest cave system discovered in Bosnia and Herzegovina – Vjetrenica Caves. This extensive cave system has in total over 6 kilometres of passages. The stunning main passage stretches on 2,50 kilometres. Vjetrenica is now on the list for UNESCO protected areas in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Trebinje

The Old Town of Trebinje was established in the 18th century and soon developed into a trading & crafts centre named Kastel. There is barely a town in Herzegovina that was not erected alongside a freshwater river. Trebinje is no exception: its old town lines the banks of the Trebisnjica River that flows through the heart of the city. The river and the city have always been known for the enormous old mills treading the Trebisnjica.
